ZDNet’s Ellyne Phneah on how China has been hogging the limelight when it comes to security matters in the Asia-Pacific, “for both good and bad reasons.”
The good: “concerted efforts to eradicate software piracy. . . .”
The bad (slightly longer list than the good):
- Continued campaign of pervasive cyberespionage and cyberexploitation to include targeting the Indian navy, an Iranian drilling company, and Japanese websites.
- Cyberspace standoff between Chinese and Filipino hackers
- ZTE/Huawei’s stellar year and pristine public image (/greentext)
Phneah lists out a few more. Needless to say, China is a pretty steady presence in cyber news, and just as they did in 2011 and 2012, I’m sure they’ll dominate the cybersecurity talking points in 2013. I mean, just look at this blog . . . 4 “China stories” straight in a row.
