Iran Blamed for Cyberattacks against U.S. Banks, Companies

The Washington Post reported that recent cyber strikes on major U.S. banks and companies, such as JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America, were initiated by Iran. The Post further stated that U.S. intelligence and other officials believe the strikes were issued in response to Western economic sanctions imposed on Iranian financial institutions in an effort to cease Iran’s nuclear program.

In a taped C-SPAN interview, Senator and Chairman of the Homeland Security Governmental Affairs Committee Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) said:

I think this was done by Iran and the Quds Force, which has its own developing cyberattack capability.

As the article reports, The Quds Force is a unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.
